Umcor – which stands for United Metal Corporation – was founded in 2003. Umcor specialises in the worldwide trade and production of high-quality copper and other metal products.
Founded by Chairman Markus Mueller and experienced metal traders with over 15 years of experience in the non-ferrous metal markets, Umcor is now a leading global metal trader.
Having previously worked successfully in various companies, the team were able to use their worldwide network of contacts in the industrial non-ferrous metal markets to create client relationships, focusing in particular on the trade with copper products, as well as zinc, lead and steel alloys.
From 2003 to 2009, Umcor operated as a pure trader, before expanding its focus with the acquisition of production plants and is still successfully active in both sectors today.
In April 2012, Umcor AG acquired Montanwerke Brixlegg AG (MWB) with more than 330 employees. The company is the oldest copper smelter in Europe and has one of the most traditional plants in Austria.
Together with MWB, Umcor acquired the daughter plant of MWB, Krombachy in Kovohuty Slovakia with 160 employees. This factory mainly produces Copper Anodes for MWB.
In the same year, Umcor bought the French industrial group Gindre Duchavanynear Lyon with over 500 employees, which is strategically important for Montanwerke Brixlegg and purchases a large part of its input materials from Montanwerke.
These acquisitions bring Umcor’s employees worldwide to over 1,000 individuals.
Umcor AG itself has also been trading intensively in LME-registered copper cathodes, high-quality copper wire rod and special steel alloys for almost 20 years.
