Montanwerke Brixlegg (BRX) is an Austrian company with a history rich in tradition. Copper and silver have been produced in the plants at Brixlegg for over 550 years.

The products of Montanwerke Brixlegg are characterised by high brand awareness and excellent quality and have awidely diversified range of applications. The “BRX” brand is recognised as a trademark all over the world. The Montanwerke plants process about 160,000 tonnes of copper-bearing secondary materials each year, from which they extract around 120,000 tonnes of purest copper.

Recycling for the sake of the environment

Today Montanwerke Brixlegg is a 100% recycling business. With more than 300 employees at the Brixlegg site in Tyrol, Montanwerke Brixlegg AG is one of the most important industrial companies in western Austria. No matter if it comes from old car wrecks or broken refrigerators – from these the purest copper is refined again for use in mobile phones, computers, televisions, wind turbines and much more.

Extensive range of products

Montanwerke Brixlegg AG is known for its high-quality products. These include LME-registered copper cathodes, shapes for the highest requirements and precious metals like gold and silver. Furthermore, BRX also produces iron silicate slag and pesticides (copper oxychloride / Flowbrix) as well as nickel sulphate.

Quality and innovation: In the areas of copper recycling and copper refining, the Brixlegg plant technology is state of the art and meets all quality requirements. In order to be able to compete internationally, the processes for extracting valuable metals are constantly being developed. Montanwerke Brixlegg AG works in close collaboration with universities and research institutes in Austria and abroad.

All systems and products are certified with EN ISO 9001: 2000 and our high quality standard is recognised throughout the world. The company is also certified with ISO 14001:2007 and as a waste management facility.

Kovohuty, a.s. (Krompachy, Slovakia)

Since 2002 the copper refinery Kovohuty, a.s. in Krompachy, Slovakia has belonged to Montanwerke Brixlegg AG. Kovohuty, a.s. has 150 employees and is a recycling business, producing around 48,000 tonnes of anode copper each year from copper-bearing secondary raw materials. Further processing into cathodes takes place in Brixlegg.
